Jenna’s First 3D Print

This Tuesday, I had the opportunity to use and create something with a 3D printer for the first time. I chose to print the JMU cube because it seemed like a cute first 3D print and like something I would keep on my desk. The experience was not like how I imagined it to be; prior to seeing these printers, I had thought all 3D printers would be massive machines that would be extremely expensive. I now know that 3D printers are in fact quite small and inexpensive enough for people to have one of their own in their houses. Luckily, I did not run into any trouble my first time printing; everything went smoothly and the most I had to do was decrease the density before starting in order to reduce the printing time. My print lasted 1 hour and 36 minutes, which was much longer than I thought it would be for such a small trinket I was printing. I am very happy with how it turned out, and I have already put it to use by storing gift cards in it and keeping it on my desk!

Karina’s First 3D Print

I have never 3D printed before, so I was super excited classes didn’t get cancelled and I was able to come in to do my first print ever! I decided to just do the JMU Cube as my first print to get a feel of how the printers and programs work. To my surprise, it was a very simple process. I was expecting it to be way more difficult, but now I know it is actually super easy and really fascinating to watch. The only real complication I had was with getting my computer to start, but other than that, everything went well. Overall, I had a great first experience with 3D printing and I love how my print turned out. Now, I am really looking forward to creating my next print!

Hi, I’m Jonathan Berrang

Hello! My name is Jonathan Berrang, and I am a junior SMAD Interactive Design major from Waynesboro, Virginia. I also have a minor in Educational Media.

In my free time, I enjoy hanging out with friends, going on hikes, playing video games, and listening to music. I’m also a member of Phi Sigma Pi, a co-ed honor fraternity here at JMU. I see myself as a creative person, and I always enjoy learning different types of creative software, even if it’s just to mess around with for fun. That’s why I’m excited to take this class; I’m looking forward to learning a skill that I otherwise would probably not have much opportunity to learn.

I chose this image of diverging paths to describe myself because I am still exploring interests to see where different skills could take me in the future.

My creative type is The Visionary.

Hi, Im Julianna Barnaba

I am from Hamilton, New Jersey where I live with my mom and two younger brothers. I have moved many times but never out of New Jersey. I like to stay active and have always played sports like lacrosse, basketball, and volleyball. My new favorite hobby is going on walks and hikes. I love doing anything thats outside and I spend all of my summer at the beach and have made it a goal to live on a boat for the summer. I am very family oriented and I consider my grandparents my best friends.

I chose a CD Boombox as the object to represent me because I love music and ever since I was little my mom was always playing her music on a boombox and that was what I would wake up to on the weekends as she cleaned or started cooking a pot of sauce on Sundays. Even now I always have a big speaker in my room and you will rarely catch me not listening to music throughout the day.

My creative type is Visionary. I am emotional, passion-driven, and full of ideas.

Hi, I’m Melissa

Hi, my name is Melissa Ward. I am from right outside Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. I am a junior majoring in SMAD with a concentration in interactive design and a minor in sociology. I am a member of Phi Mu here at JMU. In my free time, I enjoy listening to music/ podcasts, cooking and running.

I tend to do a lot of things haphazardly and my brain is always running at a million miles a minute, but I also have a method to my madness. So, I don’t think there’s just one object that would describe me. I ended up choosing a junk drawer. While junk drawers are messy and haphazard, a lot of people know exactly what is in their own junk drawers and how everything should be organized.

Hi, I’m Megan

Hello everyone! My name is Megan Barton, I’m a junior at James Madison University pursuing a double major in Media, Arts, & Design with a concentration in Creative Advertising and Communication with a concentration in Public Relations. Outside of school some of my favorite things to do are watch movies, go to concerts, hang out with friends, listen to podcasts, and travel! Growing up, I always loved music and movies, which inspired me to strive to work in the entertainment industry someday. Now that I’m older I have found my passion to create through a variety of media as well as collaborate with others. I decided to take this class because I thought it would be a fun new challenge to take on since I’ve never worked with 3D printers before.

The image I picked to represent me is a picture from a music festival I attended a few years ago. I choose this image because it was the first music festival I attended and is a representation of my willingness to step out of my comfort zone, just like I am doing by taking this class.

Hi, I’m Dan Drecun

I’m a 20 year old from Alexandria, VA with a concentration in Creative Advertising. A big part of my life consists of making and listening to music. I got started at a very young age and it stuck with me forever. When I’m not working on school stuff or cooking up some fire in the studio, I like to spend time with my friends or roommates (COVID-safe) and I also like to cook and clean things. I also love to drive around aimlessly a LOT; I just replaced my old car with something that doesn’t break down every month and it’s insane how much my quality of life improved.

Just made some chili it was okay

Hi, I’m Michaela Sakitis

My names is Michaela Sakitis and I am a junior creative advertising major with a minor in studio art. I would describe myself as being very creative and I love to be hands on in my creative work. I like to sketch, paint canvases, and make collages. I find it extremely relaxing and it’s a great way for me to de-stress after a long day. I also love to listen to music while I draw. It helps me get out of my own head and lose myself in what I am doing. I decided to take this class because I wanted to learn more about some of the technological aspects of creative design, specifically 3D printing. I’ve never worked with a 3D printer before and I want to become more familiar with it.

An object that best represents me is a wireless turntable because it appreciates the old while adapting to the new. I love kicking it old school and just taking a pencil to paper to sketch, no elaborate colors or intricate designs. However, I also appreciate using the new technological tools in my more complex creative work. This object relates to why I want to take this class because I cannot get into my creative mindset without starting my music first. A huge part of my creativity comes from my ability to block out the outside world, and I am able to do that best through listening to music.

As a creative type, I am a Dreamer.

My hobbies include watching and playing sports, working out and drawing.

Collaboration Carbon-adidas: 3D Printed Mass-Produced Shoe

I chose this image because it represents why I am taking this class. In the future I would love to work for an ad agency and create advertisements for some of my favorite brands. My first step towards this goal is graduating with a concentration in advertising and this class is a stepping stone towards that goal. I also chose this image because the sole of this shoe was created by 3D printing which I thought was a cool tie to the class and I’m interested in learning the process it took to create it.
