The Harrisonburg-Rockingham Historical Society & Heritage Center Museum (HRHS) is accepting applications for a research internship for the fall of 2018. (The selected intern could begin as early as August 6th if s/he wishes.) HRHS is opening a special exhibition on the surprisingly prolific inventors of Harrisonburg and Rockingham County. Between 1838 and 2016, area residents earned over 350 patents on inventions ranging from an 1838 “rocking churn” to a 1921 “Mechanical Nurse” to a 1974 “Pet House.” The Research Intern will help recover and tell the life stories of individual inventors, write and edit exhibition text panels, and help with the preparation and mounting of the exhibition artwork, images, and artifacts. The exhibition will open November 15 and run through March 9.  All interested applicants are welcome, and those interested in public history or the history of science and technology are highly encouraged to apply.
