Museum Collections Internship, Kamm Teapot Foundation, Sparta NC.

The Kamm Teapot Foundation is a non-profit charitable trust that holds and maintains an extensive collection of contemporary art, decorative art, industrial design and artifacts that address the idea, form and function of the teapot in world cultures. The collection is housed in a 10,000 s.f. climate-controlled storage facility with open shelving. The Foundation employs a full-time curator, who is cataloging and preparing the collection for its eventual public use in a museum setting. Schedule: Summer internship is a 40 hrs/wk for 8-12 weeks. Stipend of $10/hr, transportation and housing costs are the Intern’s responsibility.

Project: Intern will assist curator with various aspects of inventorying and cataloging this collection. The primary task is to populate the collections database (using TMS) from paper and digital records. This internship will provide a broad range of collections management experience, including art handling, record keeping, digital imaging and preservation practices.

Qualifications: Candidates selected for interview should be able to demonstrate interestin museum work. Majors in art history, studio art, public history or museum studies preferred. Good computer skills required, including proficiency in Microsoft Excel. Ability to focus on accuracy and details essential. Applicants should have completed two years of college at minimum, graduate students preferred. Knowledge of art materials and processes, especially ceramics, preferred.
