Cam and I decided to fix the bottom part of the broken colander. The colander was supposed to have three legs to it, but one broke off and the colander was at an angle 24/7. First, we needed to decide what kind of design we would do, and at first Professor Field recommended that we create something where the legs of the third piece we would make would be able to snap in at an angle. We found that when designing this in Tinkercad, there would not be enough support on the legs so we decided to scratch that idea.

We finally chose to create a piece that has two legs sticking out from the bottom, and we knew that if we made the legs thick enough they would be able to stick into the holes of the colander. Next, we had to measure the length of the holes on the colander so that we could be able to figure out how far to extend the legs from one another. Once we got this measurement, we had to measure the diameter of the little circle to make sure the legs would snap in. Once we got these measurements we felt our design was great and that we would print.

We printed the first time, but the measurement of the length between holes on the colander was off. So we went into Tinkercad and extended the legs on our design hoping this would suffice. Once we completed this, we printed again and it was perfect. Our “piece” snapped in exactly how we wanted it to and it was basically a perfect design. To use the final piece, you need to align the little legs and listen for it to snap into place on the colander, and then you stand the colander up like normal and it works great!
