• We started by researching opioids and how they affect different groups of people. We picked to focus on veterans, then did research on the types of injuries that cause opioid abuse in the veteran community. We then looked at alternatives to pain management, including VR, electrotherapy, massage therapy and anesthesia. We decided that we wanted to create a product that would stop pain so we researched the types of injuries Veterans faced. After feedback and more research we decided to build a patch that could provide relief to a veteran suffering from long term and breakthrough pain by using lidocaine and electrotherapy.

  • Every time we encountered a new idea we all began researching, and used the research collected to look at the big picture of the issues that veterans are facing in regards to chronic pain. We took the input of our professors and tried to think radically to find a solution that had never been done. Through every idea we did more research on that topic which helped lead us to the product we are at now because we want to offer the best possible pain relief for Veterans with lower back pain.

  • Working in interdisciplinary teams has offered an easy way to get feedback from people with different outlooks on problem solving. Every member of the group was able to see the positives and negatives of our original product in different ways which helped us improve our product in ways that each member on the team would not have individually. Individual members were also able to focus on specific areas of research, where they had more knowledge and experience.
