Pink Fairy Armadillo

The veteran community has been severely affected by the opioid crisis and more should be done to help them. Veterans tend to have a high pain tolerance and mental toughness, making it difficult for them to receive proper help. We are passionate about finding an alternative to opioids for long term pain management in the veteran community.

Kevin Dawson

Engineering Major & Mathematics Minor

Kevin Dawson is from Great Falls, VA and is in his senior year of the Engineering program. Kevin has completed many projects here at James Madison University, including his senior capstone project where he worked to design a stove that would reduce the amount of pollutants released into homes in Northern Tanzania. He has interned as an Assistant Project Manager for a General Contractor in Northern Virginia, which has added to his experience and interest in project management. Kevin looks to continue his work in project management after graduation in May 2018.

Emalee Martin is a sophomore Engineering major from Richmond, Virginia who also enjoys learning about the human body, health and nutrition. Interested in current world events, Emalee stays informed of global issues by reading and watching the news. She is very interested in Chemical Engineering and plans to work in the pharmaceutical field one day.

Health Sciences

Samantha Fitzgerald is a sophomore Health Sciences major with Pre-Medicine and Biology minors from Falls Church, Virginia. Samantha has an appreciation for creative problem solving and its applications in the medical field. This coupled with her desire to help others drives her to seek out creative solutions to problems that adversely impact others in their everyday lives. She aspires to become a Physiatrist where she can apply these attributes to better provide for her patients in the future.

Rebecca Moreira is a sophomore Biology major with a concentration in Neuroscience and a pre-med minor and she is from Woodbridge, Virginia. Rebecca has had worked on projects in the fields of genetics and ecology at JMU. Using these experiences as well as her combined interest in neuroscience, Rebecca hopes to use her knowledge to help find creative solutions for the opioid crisis. Rebecca hopes to someday work in the medical field, specifically in Neurological Health, or do work in Neuroscience research.

Nursing Major & Chronic Illness Minor

Meghan Andrews is a sophomore Nursing major from Haymarket, Virginia. Meghan found her love of service while growing up in a military community, which allowed her the opportunity to volunteer for the American Red Cross at Evans Army Community Hospital in Colorado Springs. Meghan became passionate about providing quality healthcare to patients while building empathy for patients dealing with chronic health issues. She plans to pursue a career as a nurse practitioner.
