Meadow Farm Intern/Historical Interpreter (IRC56282, closes 4/21/14): Ideal for students enrolled in History or Education. This is an internship position for college students who will work with the Division of Recreation and Parks at the Meadow Farm Museum, 3400 Mountain Road, Glen Allen, VA, to interpret, prepare and implement 19th century-focused public programs and events.
The Intern will learn and interpret the general history of the mid 19th century rural live with emphasis on the Sheppard family; give guided tours of Meadow Farm’s historic 19th century farmhouse; maintain 19th century costumed appearance; prepare and implement public programs and events at Meadow Farm Museum; supervise various youth related volunteer programs; maintain communication with Meadow Farm staff.
The intern should enjoy:
Working with children and the public for programs
Should be comfortable with public speaking to give tours
Should have an interest in history, particularly Virginia history, agriculture, or mid 19th century
Also comfortable working in inclement weather around farm animals and in costume
