Hi all! For our first major project we have chosen to design a planter, inspired by our beautiful home (JMU of course!) nestled in the shadow of the Blue Ridge Mountains.
Succulents are generally small plants with equally small root systems, which retain water like a cactus without spikes. This being said, the small cut outs in the mountain design would provide an accommodating environment. In addition, the planter’s ability to hold two plants, makes it a simple way to add multiple colors to one’s dorm room or apartment without having to transport multiple pots to and from school during break.
We started with an octagon for the base, cutting it with both rectangular and cylindrical holes to create a more free-formed geometric shape. As for the mounts themselves, we drew the shape in one piece using the squiggle tool. By raising the height of the squiggle and attaching it to our base, we were able to create the walls of the planter as you see them.
We are excited to see how it prints and make adjustments as necessary!
