For my student blog, I decided to highlight a project by a fellow student that I thought was particularly cool.

Ryan O. is a senior in my section of 3D printing, who made a really interesting fox in Fusion 360. I sat down with him for just a few minutes to ask him some questions about his design and inspiration.”

This design is based off of another design you did earlier in the semester– Why did you do a fox in the first place?

“When we first did the little pulling the object out of a hat… I got a fox and I wanted to see how far I could take it.”

Why did you decide to try a fox again in 360?

“I just wanted to see how far… I wanted to see how different the software was from Tinkercad…. how much more intuitive or harder it was.”

Why curvy and not straight edged?

“Well when I first started doing it, it was just putting points on a page, or on the X and Y axis. And then I used [a tool that neither of us could remember the name to] to make it round. And then I kept doing that and it curved instead of being straight. I think it worked even though it wasn’t really what I was looking for.”

Do you prefer the curvy version?

“Yes, definitely the curvy version. I could make it into a bottle opener if I wanted.”

Have you thought about retrying the original fox instead of the curvy?

“I’ve thought about it, but then trying to figure out how to do it, it was easier just to draw it out like the more curvy one rather than try to find different object that would fit together.”

Would you do any more curvy animal renditions?

“Maybe a dog, but it would still end up looking like a fox so it’s one in the same. Probably like a golden retriever.”

Do you have any last details about the project, or anything you want to add?

“It just came out of nowhere, and it started looking like a fox and I just went with it. Fusion 360 users should just never give up!”

I really enjoyed interviewing Ryan and learning more about one of his favorite projects. It was a simple design that looks really cool. It was also done using a program that I struggled with, so it was interesting to see how much creativity others can have on the programs that I may not understand!
