Over the summer, a group of 7th-10th grade students had the exciting opportunity to the explore the universe through James Madison University’s Space Explorer’s camp. Working with JMU’s Outreach & Engagement, the Department of Physics and Astronomy,as well as the John C. Wells Planetarium, these students raised questions and uncovered clues about our vast and constantly changing universe, using the state-of-the-art facilities that JMU provides.
One of the most exciting aspects that the students got to participate in was the Future Engineers 3-D Container Design challenge, co-sponsored by NASA, SpaceX, and others. Their job was to create a 3-D digital model of a container for space, since astronauts and explorers are constantly in need for containers for storage, food, trash, etc.
Through this exciting challenge, the students got to experience JMU’s one-of-a-kind 3-Space facility for the first time, and create something.
