My name is Alejandro and I am a forty one year old, gay, mixed race Latino from Lima in a town called La Calera. I have a university education and now I work as a certified public accountant. Since COVID I have been working from home to obey the government’s social distancing order. I live in a good area so I have good connection to my work networks and when I have the opportunity I can go for walks without facing a large crowd or threats of violence. I get from place to place in my own car, or by bike/foot. Transportation has remained operating at the same frequency but at half capacity, taxi drivers put up barriers to isolate driver from passenger. Air travel has reopened but I avoid traveling for my own safety. “Interprovincial bus trips are also working but I have not taken and will not take one, I feel very risky because of the covid19. I have only driven around the city in my car, and I have also increased the bike rides.” Though private transport is restricted on Sundays, only public transport runs. I don’t have any children but my nephews are completely online for schooling. My work has been moved remotely as well and my employer made it so I have access to all the facilities needed to carry out my activities no problem. I now spend all of my time at home, I cook and sleep a lot more and I am less stressed about the city’s traffic. I also have saved a lot of money I’d usually spend on fuel and entertainment costs. I have seen some of my relatives on very few occasions but mainly we have stayed in touch over video calls. The national government has been providing the majority of the support, they distribute monetary supplements to people in needs, they have conducted massive COVID detection test, made multiple economic deactivation plans, spoke on a national level and publicly campaigned for the care against Covid-19. The COVID tests are available in health centers for a cost, but also available by the government for free, results take anywhere from 2-5 days.Working remotely is our new reality and now apart of or culture, as well as remote studies. I cherish the natural spaces which are the most beautiful “the sea, the green areas, all nature has regained its beauty”
