My name is Lucas and I am a forty-nine year old male doctor living the Santo Amaro district of Sao Paulo, Brazil. During the beginning of the pandemic, there was a restriction in public transportation which decreased the frequency of movement from myself and others in the city. Residents like myself only left the home for the essential shopping and work travel which, for myself, decreased since there was a decrease in our job in the hospitals. In addition, all hospital personnel were to take extra care of ourselves to avoid getting the infection such as, wearing masks, gloves, aprons, etc. Overall, state and federal governments tried to implement a mandatory quarantine to reduce the infection rate. The government has also worked to provide public health care to all and monetary support for those who are unemployed. Hopefully, this pandemic will fundamentally change people’s views on their hygienic habits and implement more health precautions like wearing maks and avoid large gatherings as much as possible. Overall, I think this pandemic will cause a great harm to the economic position of many in Brazil and poverty will continue to be the most important issue that needs attention.
