I am Eva, a married woman from San Isidro in Lima, Peru. Since the start of quarantine we have had to isolate ourselves, we stayed home while only one family member went to the shops, “we lived in constant fear.” I have continued to work for the university, but my husband who works in tourism has lost his job because of the lack of tourist movement and the cancelation of all events for 2020. My children have been learning virtually from home. This was very difficult at first, but with time they are becoming accustomed to it.The institution where I work has thankfully created bus routes to transport us there. There have been many regulations and rules set in place. I do not travel other then working and essential trips. “The fear in which we live of infecting ourselves and the people we love, has made us distance ourselves.” Both the National and the Municipal government has issues orders and regulations that are widespread followed. The Municipal Post office has been distributing testing for people with symptoms. They do rapid testing for residents of our district for free which come back in 45 minutes; as well as provide a kit with medicine for treating COVID. I have already had four of the rapid and molecular tests done by my place of work, they were all free of charge. “I would think that from now on, if we have a cold for example we are going to wear masks and we are going to be more careful with the people around us.” The only positive impact of all of this has been the excess of time spent with my family, I have enjoyed creating new moments with them.
