I am Emilia, a sixty-five year old woman with a PhD in Sociology and I live in San José, Costa Rica. I stay home most of the time and I only see my daughters and grandchildren once every few months reduce my exposure to others. Most of the precautions set in place have come from the national level and they have implemented confinement and the use of masks. Most non-essential businesses were closed at the beginning of the pandemic and some are starting to reopen with social distance rules and masks. The biggest impact from Covid was in the economic sector since businesses laid off most of their workers. The government provided a small stipend for a short period of time and food was sent to the poor. Testing is now easier but expensive with a price of $100 and results are given back in a 48 hour time period.
