I am Alessandra, a forty four year old mother living in Lima, Peru. I have had to change my way of life as I now work remotely in addition to caring for the house, and my children. My son now does school from home as well, it has definitely been an adjustment for us all. The government has done some things to support us like dropping off baskets of food and providing people it’s money stipends. There have also been many rules and regulations put in place surrounding face masks and shields as well as hand washing. “Immobilization at night from 11pm to 4 am. Seniors and children under 14 are prohibited from leaving. These orders are given by the national government. Usually the measurements are met.” Many people are afraid of getting sick, even though we are working remotely it has generally generates more anxiety in people. Children and adults have been very affected mentally. Public transportation is my means of getting around, but they have been very strict in controlling the use of masks and shields, also you must be mindful of social distancing. Testing is now easily available, but there is a cost if you want to go to a lab for it, it takes 24 hours to get results. Some of these changes have been favorable; the number of people on the public bus has lessened, there is greater care in cleaning, labor relations have improved, commerce has become easier, etc. Also I believe an important change is in the use of masks, not just in preventing COVID but for illnesses such as flu, cold, bronchitis, etc, people should use them. There have been some unfavorable changes in regards to how it has affected the economy and work as well as people fearing one another. What I miss the most is the food and eating on the streets.
