Poppy Crawshaw
Industrial Design
Poppy Crawshaw is a junior Industrial Design major and Art minor from Poquoson, Virginia. She is inspired by nature, history, and music, all fueling her creativity in design and problem solving. Poppy enjoys making and experimenting with prototyping different materials and processes. She has ambition to become a responsible designer in hopes to make a difference in the world and the way humans interact with it.
Sarah Trotter
Engineering
Sarah Trotter is a junior engineering major with a Family Studies minor from Charlottesville, Virginia. They have been on many project based teams working to tackle problems ranging anywhere from creating a human-powered vehicle for a client with Cerebral Palsy to enhancing environmental impacts through collaborative community engagement. Interests include working on real-world problems to help change people’s’ lives, art, independent projects, and presenting information in various ways such as through acting and storyboarding. They are hoping to pursue a career that will allow them to have a possibility of working on a variety of projects, and are considering obtaining a masters degree in Industrial Design or a similar field to intersect engineering with design.
Sunmi Kim
Nursing
Sunmi Kim is a junior nursing major from Gainesville, Virginia. With an interest in human biological studies and a passion to bring happiness and help others lead better lives, she wishes to provide medical and emotional support to her future patients in a medical setting. Sunmi has previously went on short term mission trips to Nicaragua and Dominican Republic where she was able to help provide religious and medical care to people of underprivileged communities within these countries. These experiences only strengthened Sunmi’s desire in wanting to pursue a career in the medical field where she would be able to provide the same care and treatment to future patients.
Daniel Yaqub
Biology
Daniel Yaqub is a junior Biology major with a concentration in Microbiology and a pre-med minor. He is from Vienna, Virginia, just outside of Washington D.C. Daniel has worked on ecological focused research projects, and has travelled the world extensively. These experiences combined with his studies at JMU allow him to provide a unique perspective on the issue at hand, and possible solutions to it. One day Daniel hopes to either work in medical research or be a trauma surgeon.
Annie Masters
Biology
Annie Masters is a sophomore biology major with a pre-med minor and she is from Fairfax, Virginia. She has been involved in genetics focused research at JMU. Using her experiences at JMU and outside in her daily life, Annie hopes to use her perspective to help find possible solutions for the opioid crisis. With an interest in helping better other women, she aspires to someday work in women’s health.

Before taking this course, our group only had a basic understanding of the opioid crisis. We aware of the large risks of dependency and addiction, without having an understanding of the effects and the scale of the population affected.
