“The Arab-American Experience” by Documentary Filmmaker Mr. Abraham Kasbo

Wednesday, March 26, 6:30-7:30 pm

Duke Hall, West Campus
Reception to Follow

Co-Sponsored by the College of Visual and Performing Arts; the School of Art, Design and Art History; the JMU Muslim Student Association; the Middle Eastern Migrations and Communities Minor; the Mahatma Gandhi Center for Global Nonviolence; the Office of International Programs; and the School for Media, Arts and Design

Mr. Kasbo, a Syrian-American filmmaker, will speak on his new documentary to be shown in June 2014 on public television. With historical immigration patterns as background, the film explores the personal stories of Arab-Americans and how they have contributed to the collective American experience since the early 1800’s. At a time when the media tends to paint Arab peoples and culture with the broad brush of terrorism, this film offers an alternative lens for our understanding of the Arab-American experience.
