Connor Kindley, a student in the Math department at JMU also took the 3D printing course. He is really interested in math concepts and enjoyed translating some of the visuals to his deigns in 3D printing. He says “I’m a math major who learns best visually, so showing how math can be implemented physically is cool. In a print or two I incorporated Fibonacci numbers, which are commonly found in nature.”

I think this is really cool because I am far from a math major, but I’m also a visual learner. It is hard for me to sometimes visualize these concepts in a physical space but 3D printing helps with that.

Here are a few photos of Connor’s prints…

Connor says that he likes using the OpenScad program because it allows him to be the most precise, and it is the most like computer programming. He also mentions “In terms of math, my openscad bowl was my favorite print since I used trigonometry to work it out. My final was my favorite overall.”

Math can be fun!
