3D Printing: A limitless opportunity for your most creative ideas to take shape.
While at first, my designs and prints leaned toward mediocre compilations of shapes and letters, I quickly was able to hone my skills and begin to think of more purpose driven applications. Further, I could expand my idea of production with the use of 3d scanners and more customizable software. Using these tools, not only could I make my ideas tangible, but I could use items already around me as basis for manipulation. Have a frayed charging cable? Print a guard for it! Need something to store your earrings or keys? Build a box with your initials on the top! This was a wonderful step in the learning process as the principals of design and printing we were being taught were becoming useful to my everyday life!
I loved the idea that I could reach into the past and bring an item to life.
So I set out to recreate the famous Nintendo 64 Logo, a staple of many childhoods.
First, I opened tinkercad (an easy to use CAD program) and selected the letter “N” shape.
I then manipulated it so that the top flat portions were perfect squares and duplicated it.
Next I rotated the duplicate 90 degrees so that the right side of the first “N” lined up perfectly with the left side of the new “N”
Lastly I duplicated the combined “Ns” and rotated it 180 degrees, giving them all connected sides.
I then scaled to a fitting size and printed!
