Sundays in Shirati are considered a day of rest, and what a relaxing day we had! The morning began with a church service we were invited to attend. Dressed in our Sunday best (as opposed to our scrubs!) we were shocked to see how many people packed into the church. There was upbeat music and singing, and many different dance routines throughout the service. We even had two adorable little girls join us in our pew. We were honored when the hospital administrator called us up to introduce ourselves in front of the entire room; such a warm and welcoming feeling!
Many of us learned how to wash our clothes the old fashioned way! A big thank you to Sami for having a clothes line for us to hang up on a tree.
Our day ended with an evening hike and one of the most beautiful views we’ve ever seen! Our tour guides, Archy and Mandela, led us through the village and up to the peak. We even made a friend along the way- Babu the 10 year old. We were just in time to see the sun setting over the rocks, with Lake Victoria in the background. After such a relaxing day we are feeling refreshed and happy to be here!
PS: Keith climbed up the tree with Babu. See if you can spot them in this picture!
