During World War II, art was looted throughout Europe. Art looting and art preservation was done primarily through the Soviet Union, Nazi art theft organizations, and the Monuments Men/Allied Forces. Each side believed that they were the heroes of the art world. Yet, in the end there were no true heroes or villains as individuals on both sides fell somewhere in between.
