The proceedings that took place at the Virginia Ratifying Convention in 1787 and 1788 can perhaps be looked back upon as one of the most critical points in American history. The Founding Fathers knew the Articles of Confederation needed to be repealed and thus drafted the United States Constitution in 1787. However, two opposing factions emerged with James Madison on the Federalist side in support of ratification, and Patrick Henry on the Antifederalist side, opposing ratification. The debates were lively, thought provoking, and instrumental to shaping our nation the way we know it today.
