The Second World War is the deadliest conflict in human history. Specifically, the conflict between Nazi Germany and Soviet Russia claimed the lives of nearly 50 million people from 1941 to 1945. Why? This theater of the war is often overlooked in the West. Some of the most tenacious and barbaric fighting in history took place as Communism clashed with Nazism. Adolf Hitler and Joseph Stalin were supreme leaders of their nations, and through a combination of modern warfare and the aim to destroy the other, millions of lives were lost.
