During World War II, the Nazis in Germany plundered thousands of art and artifacts from all across Europe. They stole numerous pieces for Hitler to have in the “Greater German Reich” that he was creating. The United States discovered what the Nazis were doing and sent a special team called the Monuments, Fine Arts, and Archives, or the Monuments Men, to go and rescue these priceless artifacts. After the war ended, many of the items were found but there are still many pieces that are lost to this day.
