The act of homosexuality was a criminal offense in the United States well into the 1960s. Many tried to rise up to fight for the right to live how they wanted, but no uprising had as much of an effect on the country as the Stonewall Riots. Jacob “Gil” Wilson talks about the drag queen icons that founded a revolution, safe havens found in the form of mafia-affiliated bars during and after Prohibition, and the movement that left the United States seeing things much “queerer” than they ever had before.
