Both Egypt and Libya had rocky relationships with their European counterparts leading up to World War 2, with neither giving full support to their occupier during the war. Egypt refused to fight alongside their protector, Britain, as Britain had been meddling in Egypt’s internal affairs since 1883. Libya’s support for their colonizer, Italy, had two polar extremes due to Italy’s segregation of the country. One group fought alongside Italy against Britain, while another allied Britain and revolted against their oppressor.
