The Lindbergh Kidnapping

by Katherine Dillman and Sophia Cabana

The Lindbergh Kidnapping occurred on March 1, 1932, during the Great Depression. Charles Lindbergh and Anne Morrow Lindbergh were the parents of Charles Lindbergh Jr, who was 20 months old when he was kidnapped. He was also 20 months old when he died. His body was not found until May 12, 1932. Bruno Hauptmann was executed for the crime in 1936. Hauptmann’s wife spent the rest of her life trying to clear her husband’s name. The Federal Kidnapping Act, legislation that automatically involves the FBI in a kidnapping that crosses state lines, was created as a result of the crime.
