Fall 2018 Lab Members

Lauren Cutlip

Lauren Cutlip is a third-year undergraduate student in Integrated Science and Technology at James Madison University, sectoring in environment, energy, and holistic problem solving as applied to Climate Change. Her minors are Environmental Humanities and Honors Interdisciplinary Studies (Honors College). Within the STS Futures Lab in Fall of 2018, Lauren conducted research regarding the recycling crisis in the US, and waste management as a whole. She is also a campus sustainability intern working with dining staff, and participates in a service organization helping local environmental initiatives. Lauren has also interned with NASA Goddard Space Flight Center assembling ground instruments to measure atmospheric greenhouse gases.

Nolan Harrington

Nolan Harrington is a First-Year student at James Madison University. His Major is Integrated Science and Technology with a minor in Science, Technology, and Society. In the STS Futures Lab, Nolan has worked alongside Dr. Conley and Dr. York to investigate the issue of reproductive technologies and identity in Malta. This complex issue expands past the field of science and technology and encourages a new understanding of expertise and perspective within the development and implementation of new technologies. Nolan’s favorite part about the STS Futures lab is the novel approaches to understanding STEM outside of the lab and its implications in a society.

Samuel Kodua

Samuel Kodua is a third year in the Integrated Science and Technology program at James Madison University and a member of the JMU STS Futures Lab. Samuel is sectoring in energy systems and information and knowledge management. He is also the community service chair of the professional engineering fraternity chapter of Theta Tau at JMU.

Riley Pates

 

Riley Pates is currently a junior at James Madison University in the College of Integrated of Science and Technology and is expected to graduate in 2020. Her current research conducted in the STS Fellowship Lab is the relationship between Sex Trafficking and Technology and the Investigation of how Technology is Being Utilized by Traffickers in the Human Trafficking Cycle.

Grant Rabalais

Grant Rabalaisis a fourth-year undergraduate student in Integrated Science and Technology.

Joel Tigges

Joel Tigges is a fourth-year undergraduate student in Integrated Science and Technology concentrating in Production Systems.  He has been utilizing the STS lab for his Capstone Team’s project revolving around Autonomous Platooning of Freight Trucks.  Joel’s favorite learning experience within the lab has been gaining insight into other student’s and faculty’s work here at the University. His continued work has provided a full time offer at Booz Allen Hamilton as a consultant.

Lab Alumni

Chase Collins, Government Contractor at Innovative Reasoning, Marine Corps Base Quantico for TECOM and the Future Learning Group. Chase is a founding member of the STS Futures Lab.
