DUKES LACROSSE TEAM DEMOLISHES VANDERBILT IN A 17-8 VICTORY

HARRISONBURG, VA—James Madison Lacrosse defeated Vanderbilt 17-8 on Saturday at Sentara Park in their second to last regular season game. The Dukes had a lead in the first quarter and didn’t let up on the Commodores until the last whistle blew. 

The Dukes showcased their control over the game, winning 20 draw controls compared to the Commodores’ eight. They continued their strong performance with 19 turnovers, leaving the Commodores with only nine. The Dukes had 400 fans in attendance for their last home game this season.

James Madison came out hot with six goals scored in the first quarter and only two goals scored for Vanderbilt. Vanderbilt picked up in the second quarter with four goals but the margin was already too far. The Dukes dominated on the offense side with four lead scorers. Senior attacker Isabella Peterson, having four goals, three goals from graduate attacker Kacey Knobloch, three from sophomore attacker Maddie Epke and two from sophomore midfielder Lauren Savage

Not only did the Dukes crush it on offense but they dominated on the defensive side. Duke’s defense was lead by four. Senior defender Lizzy Prisino, senior midfielder Taylor Marchetti, sophomore midfielder Maddie Epke and sophomore goalie Caitlin Boden

“The victory today has everything to do with the collaboration between the women. We beat a great team today and are so happy to have finished off the last home game strong. The win today was needed as we finish up our last regular season game next week. The women are hoping to do it again and end the season on a high before the playoffs start up.” 

Boden had seven saves against Vanderbilt with 24 shots taken by Vanderbilt, which puts her at .467 save percentage. 

The win over Vanderbilt brought James Madison’s record to 11- 4 for this season. The Dukes have one more game left in their regular season next Saturday at Old Dominion University, which will be broadcast on ESPN+.

The James Madison Dukes Women’s Lacrosse team represents James Madison University in Harrisonburg, Virginia. They play in the NCAA Division I American Athletic Conference. Shelley Klaes has been their head coach since 2007. They have attended 17 NCAA tournaments and won the National Championship in 2018.
