Harrisonburg, Va. – After being dominated by Temple in the first half, the Dukes comeback in the second half to secure the victory at home this past Saturday.
Struggling in the first half, the Dukes were able to take charge and dominate in the second half. Sophomore Maddie Epke was the star of the game as she collected 11 of JMU’s draw controls, she is now tied with Maddie McDaniel’s record of 127 for single-season draw controls. Epke and senior attacker Katelyn Morgan also had high scoring games, with Epke notching 5 goals and Morgan putting in 4 goals and an assist. Additionally, there were four other goal scorers, and senior attacker Isabella Peterson was able to contribute with 2 more goals.
On the defensive end, freshman defender Ava Bleckley paved the way as she secured 4 ground balls and caused 2 turnovers. Numerous other players were involved including redshirt-junior midfielder Maggie Clark, sophomore defender Courtney Quirk, and senior defender Nicholle Marshall. Clark added 2 ground balls and 2 turnovers, Quirk recorded 1 ground ball and 2 turnovers, while Marshall was responsible for 3 turnovers.
Respectably, Temple played a great game as their offense was led by Mackenzie Roth and Bella Mastropietro, both scoring 5 goals each. Defensively, Katie Shallow had 5 draw controls, while Mastropietro had 2 ground balls, a turnover, and 4 draw controls.
When asked about the pressure of playing an intense game on senior day, Kacey Knobloch was quoted saying, “We just made a point that it was our senior day, we needed to play a little bit better for our friends, our family is here to watch.”
The No. 12 Dukes (10-3, 3-0) are on the road for their next game, heading to Gainesville, Florida to take on the No. 10 Gators (12-2, 3-0) this upcoming Saturday, April 13 at 11:30 am.
