Today we visited Alicia dysphasia center which strives to make nutritional and yummy food for patients with dysphasia. Dysphasia is the inability or difficulty to swallow. It is not a disease, but rather a symptom of a disease. A person can have dysphasia to solids, liquids, or even both! What Alicia did was change the velocity of food in order to make any liquid or solid food easier for a patient to swallow! This was very interesting to see and eat because the food tasted earthly like what was made yet blended to a consistency for the patients. Also, in our health care system we do not offer enough health and visually pleasing foods for people who have dysphasia. The workshop ended with all of us being able to prepare a meal to a full thickness consistency. Our team ended up making salmon with veggies, potatoes, and strawberry yogurt.

After we finished cooking we ate lunch right next to Alicia and then headed to Saint Bernet for a tour of the local monastery. The monastery was absent Luton beautiful. The people did a wonder job of preserving the original building and showing how it would look in the time the monks lived there! After we finished the tour we went back on the bus back to Tarragona. It was a busy day but a great one!

We we only have a week and a half left in is beautiful city and will be sad to leave. Adios for now. -Emily
