Reflecting on yesterday’s discussion, I thought it would be appropriate to share this video of a sports broadcaster covering a football story.  The person upIoaded the 30-second video not to share news, but to expose Rachel Nichols’ supposed “tired eyes.”  It has over 79,000 views.

Workplaces are a socially and historically constructed man’s domain, and the sports arena is no exception.  In fact, I think the gendered stereotypes in Wood Chapter 10 are even more evident in the sports industry, a field where male domination is running rampant.

I wanted to highlight the top comments.  I was appalled, but mostly by the number of “likes” they received.  The first comment plays into the ‘sex object’ stereotype, while the second comment reveals the ‘mother’ stereotype, not to mention sexual violence.

It’s videos and comments like these that make me not want to get into sports broadcasting.  I stick to sports writing because of the general pressure and disrespect of women in the field. Video below:
