Courageous Brazilians and Their Legacies to Mankind

 

In looking at the various meanings of courage and its values through history of mankind, the students of Global Cultures (HUM-252) will explore the lives and achievements of Brazilians who have had a global impact on Science, Arts, Music,Technology, Sports, Justice, Diplomacy and the Environment. Santos Dumont will be acknowledged for his achievements in Aviation, Carlos Chagas for his discovery of Chagas disease and its treatment, Carmen Miranda, Caetano Veloso and Gilberto Gil, as champions of globalization for Brazilian music, Chico Mendes as a martyr for the environment, Duque Caxias for his risks in seeking peace, Mestre Bimba for carrying forward the art of Capoeira inspired by African Slaves, Pele and Neymar for their global  achievements in Soccer,  and Judge Sergio Moro for his  fight against pervasive corruption.
