I’ve created this site to serve a need for materials related not only to brass performance, but the specific needs and challenges of preservice music teachers and others who are looking for more information to teach brass students in their classes. Many music education majors have only one or two semesters of experience on secondary brass instruments, during which time they are typically expected to develop acceptable performance skills. In the push to learn these skills, critical thought to teaching (rather than playing) musicianship and the instruments sometimes gets overlooked. As with all such resources, I write from a perspective colored by personal experiences and philosophical beliefs. The content you’ll find here focuses on the marriage between foundational concepts of performance and the pedagogical knowledge and skills. Many excellent resources, texts, and guides on brass playing exist. If you’re looking for further information, I’ve tried to provide links* throughout as well as some listed resources. I hope you find this website useful!
*With the 2020 website migration, I’m still working to update internal links. The content is present within the site; however, links may still direct you to the deactivated old site.
