Welcome to the new STS Futures Lab! We are excited to establish this new laboratory within the School of Integrated Sciences (SIS) at JMU.
What is it?
Please see our write-up in CIRCE Magazine: Steam Edition entitled “The STS Futures Lab at James Madison University: Integrating Design Fiction, Experimental Pedagogy, and Anticipatory Research into STEM Education and Outreach,” (page 81) for a description of the Lab, its history, its purpose, and its methods.
How can I become involved?
Please contact us to find out more about our regular meetings and how you can become involved. If you are an undergraduate student, and would like to take our corresponding courseĀ (ISAT 480 STS Futures I), please contact us and tell us why you would like to participate. STS Futures will meet once per week, and will be an opportunity to work in a small group setting with Drs. Conley and York. Students may choose to pursue their own independent study project, to develop their skills in scenario analysis and design fiction as well as workshop facilitation, and/or to participate in the research projects of Drs. Conley and York. All students additionally participate in the Co-Imagining Futures research project. This class is capped at 10 students.
If you are an expert in or outside academia who would like to participate in our study, “Co-Imagining Futures,” please use the contact form to provide us with your information and we will follow up with you.
Hello hello,
I thought you might be interested in joining the work and networking that will happen in Paris this December 16/17 at the Global Futures Literacy Design Forum. Contact me at r.miller@unesco.org if this is of interest. Congratulations on your great work. Riel Miller
