BALTIMORE, Md. – Another high scoring night from De’Von Achane, supported by a career-high from Jaxon Smith-Njigba, helped Baltimore to a decisive Week 9 victory over Brooklyn in front of the raucous home crowd at the Inner Harbor.
Achane came into Week 9 coming off a 26.7 point scoring night in Week 8 and somehow topped his own performance with a 32.1 showing. The budding fantasy superstar was not the only high scorer for Baltimore this week, however. as second-year receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba put up a career high 37 fantasy points. These two young players combined for 63.7 points, and accounted for just over half of Baltimore’s entire point total in Week 9.
To record such high numbers, Achane rushed for 63 yards and a touchdown, while also catching all eight of his targets for 58 yards and a touchdown. Smith-Njigba recorded 180 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
The 2-7 Brooklyn Colossus had no such luck of a stellar performance. Wide receivers Amari Cooper and Juwan Jennings and tight end George Kittle all did not play this week for Brooklyn, which drastically lowered Brooklyn’s potential score. Solid nights from Joe Mixon (16.6) and the Chargers D/St (16) were not enough with such a weak lineup.
Baltimore is now rolling in this middle of the season stretch, having won two of its last three. More importantly, however, is that Baltimore has eclipsed 100 points for three straight weeks, the first of such streak for the Blue Crabs in 2024. Sitting firmly in ninth place at 4-5, Baltimore has playoff aspirations as it is only a game out of fifth place. The same can not be said for Brooklyn, as it is 2-7.
Baltimore now looks ahead to 6-3 Chattanooga, while Brooklyn looks ahead to the 5-4 Harrisonburg Hornets.
