No. 2 Dukes Drop 20 Goals on Towson, Move to 5-0
Their winning streak continued to gain momentum last Thursday with a win against former CAA rival Towson University as the Dukes brought the heat with their victory over Albany. The Dukes were without one of their key players, Isabella Peterson, who had received a red card at the previous game against Towson, fortunately the team still prevailed earning a commanding 21-12 win.
The Dukes continue to show off as one of the nation’s top offenses as it’s been essential in their undefeated season so far. They have maintained an impressive average of 18.4 goals per game, an important assist as they progress through the season. They have many players that have had notable success including Katelyn Morgan and Maddie Epke, who have landed themselves as lead goal scorers.
The Dukes’ defense continues to show improvement, with the girls being relatively young. Backed by goalkeeper Caitlin Boden, the defense has remained resilient and composed under tight situations helping the Dukes remain on top. The team’s ability to force turnovers and secure draw controls will continue to be pivotal factors in determining how the season will turn out.
Reflecting on Thursday’s victory against Towson, JMU head coach Shelley Klaes emphasized the importance of managing leads and continuing to control momentum throughout the game, particularly as the offensive unit consistently makes early contributions. Klaes hinting at the fact that the Dukes must finish all games, the same way they were started.
The Dukes will travel away again, as they will hit the road and head too Greenville, S.C., to face off against Furman on Saturday, as the game is scheduled for 11:00 a.m.
