Harrisonburg, VA. – The JMU Women’s Lacrosse Team had a 9 point lead over Albany on Feb. 25th. The intense game had fans biting their nails as JMU took the lead. The final score coming to be 22-12, JMU.
JMU attackers Katelyn Morgan and Maddie Epke led the Dukes scoring with five goals each within the game, amazing efforts on their part. The team and fans were in high spirits watching the two go back and fourth. Player Kacey Knobloch lead the team in assists, will some help from Epke, Morgan, and Taylor Marchetti.
JMU’s strong offense was challenged by Albany, as they had high hopes for a win. Albany attacker, Grace McCauley came to score five goals. Defensively, the Dukes were led by Ava Bleckley, Nicholle Marshall and Courtney Quirk, stopping 12 out of 24 shots on goal by Albany. A difficult match for Albany, but a learning experience for both sides.
In the post-game press conference, Albany Head Coach Katie Thomson puts a positive spin on her teams loss, admiring JMU.
“I loved the way we came out and played a really solid first half. James Madison was very opportunistic throughout the third quarter, but we never game up and made some great stops and plays throughout. We’ve been challenged to start this season, and we are holding our heads up as we learn and grow.”
The win brought JMU to to a 5-0 winning streak, as they continue to advance undefeated.
JMU will be on the road this coming Sunday, May 2nd. The team will travel to Greenville, South Carolina to play against Furman.
