OKLAHOMA CITY– The Oklahoma City Oxen were defeated by the St Louis Bison at Bush Stadium, with an overall score of 69.80 to 72.52. This was an extremely close game for the Oxen, considering they are the 14th place team and only lost by 2.72 points against the #1 team.

Oklahoma City Oxen has yet to win a game causing them to be in last place with an eight game losing streak. Unfortunately Oxen star quarterback, Justin Herbert, had a bye week causing the team to lose the opportunity to score points during the game. This would have been an ideal opportunity for the team to boost their confidence with a potential win over the first place team. However, with Justin Herbert on the sidelines due to the bye week and with Justin Fields, Oxen’s other QB being benched, there were minimal opportunities to pick up points.

Conversely the Bison quarterback, Aaron Rodgers, led the team and scored 23.22 points after he completed 19 of 30 passes, scored two touchdowns, and had one interception.

The Oxen tight end Evan Engram played very well and was the teams highest scorer, accumulating 15.50 points. Engram started out strong with a 22-yard touchdown in the first quarter and caught 4 of 6 targets for 55 yards throughout the game. Bison TE, T.J Hockenson, was only 3.50 points behind Engram and secured three of four targets for eighty yards during the game. Both the Oxen and Bison running back’s played poorly and missed plenty of opportunities to score points for their team. Oxen RB, D’Andre Swift, rushed five times for six yards and totaled 10 touches for 33 yards. Bison RB, Eno Benjamin, rushed nine times for 22 yards and got 13 touches but only 45 total yards. Overall Swift accumulated 14.30 points while Benjamin only managed to score 8.50 points.

D’Andre Swift has been battling various injuries to his shoulders and ankles throughout this season and has been unable to play in the past three games. Before playing in last week’s game against the Bison, Swift explains how he has worked through his injuries and stated “I trust the training staff. They have been doing a great job. Just different stuff every day, and trying to get back out there with the guys to help this team win games. But, it’s been tough. It’s been tough. Doing a better job mentally, doing progress every day. Little steps, progress every day. That’s all I can do.”

The Oxen move into week 9 home game against the Charleston Crabs and will hopefully secure a win to break their season long- drought.
