ST. LOUIS, MO. -The Oklahoma City Oxen faced the St. Louis Bison in the extremely close and low-scoring week seven matchup at Busch Stadium, beating them 72.52-69.8. This game was especially close for a 6-1 team facing a 0-7 team, or the #1 team versus the team in 14th place.
The St. Louis Bison were led by Aaron Rodgers, who scored a total of 23.22 points, which included 2 touchdowns and 203 passing yards, with only one interception. The next highest scorer on the team with 18.00 points was Nick Folk.
Both the St. Louis Bison and the Oklahoma City Oxen scored a very low amount of points, partially due to both teams missing scoring opportunities with their starting lineup. The St. Louis Bison started 2 players with 0.00 points and the Oklahoma City Oxen started one person with 0.00 points. On top of this, St. Louis starter Eno Benjamin missed many scoring opportunities for the Bisons, he had 13 touches but only 45 total yards. However, this did not end up causing the downfall of St. Louis because the Oklahoma City Oxen also had D’Andre Smith miss scoring opportunities, while Smith was able to get 10 touches, he only achieved a total of 33 yards for the Oxen.
The St. Louis Bison went into their Monday night game trailing behind the Oklahoma City Oxen by 2.28 points but luckily scored 5 points to edge out the victory in what ended up almost being their biggest failure of the season.
In the post game press conference Head Coach Tim English gave his experienced opinion on the near-upset victory over the Oklahoma City Oxen.
“Listen, the responsibility of the game being as close as it was falls on everyone’s shoulders, not just the players who did not perform as well as usual. There are some tweaks I need to make to the starting lineup, and it was certainly a mistake on the team’s part to underestimate the team without a win this season. Going forward, we must stop looking past teams and solely focus on the next game ahead of us, because as we saw this week, any team is capable of pulling out the win. Regardless of almost becoming the laughing stock of the week, a win is a win and we will take what we can get. We will only improve after this learning experience and wake-up call the team needed after a rough two games. However right now, we are still leading the league and are ranked #1, and will do everything we can to end the season that way and cut down on the offensive missed opportunities in the future.”
The win brought the St. Louis Bison to an overall season record of (7-1)
The St. Louis Bisons will travel to Orlando next week to face the Orlando Crocodiles in their home stadium.
