HONOLULU – The Mexico City Manatees face their second loss of the season against the Honolulu Hammerheads after losing 121.70 – 108.96.
The Manatees struggled to keep up with the Honolulu Hammerheads throughout the whole game. The Manatees’ Travis Etienne, running back, only managed to get 3.20 points with eight touches on the ball and 32 rushing yards, despite his performance over the first three weeks only getting better. With this being his worst performance of the season so far, he’ll be hitting practice hard hoping to get back to his usual level in week 5.
The Manatees’ quarterback Patrick Mahomes lead their offense once again in week 4, throwing for 249 passing yards and three touchdowns, while also managing to add 34 rushing yards, adding 32.24 points for the Manatees. Wide receiver CeeDee Lamb was another player with a great offensive performance for the Manatees with 97 receiving yards and one touchdown.
The offensive production from the Manatees seemed like it would have been enough to get a win in week 4, but the Hammerheads caused major problems for the Manatees’ defense early on. Their running back Miles Sanders lead their offense with a stellar performance. Putting up 134 rushing yards, 22 receiving yards, and two touchdowns, Sanders was too explosive for the Manatees’ defense to handle.
In a post game interview with Defensive Coordinator Jack Rowe, he spoke on his disappointment of his team.
“The team seemed too comfortable going into this game after last week’s win and you can see how it paid off for us. Our offense had another great performance this week, and if our defense was able to perform the same way then this game wouldn’t have been a contest. We’ll be hitting practice hard this week to ensure the same doesn’t happen again next week.”
The Manatees will looking for a win on the road next week against the Charleston Crabs.
