Honolulu Hammerheads’ Rocky Start at the Beginning of the Season

Toronto –  The Hammerheads lost a close game to the Toronto Mounties by a score of 161.70 to 133.18 in its week 1 match Sunday.

“It was a hard fought game, and things were really looking up until Monday night,” said assistant coach Steven Johnson, “We lost our momentum, and as soon as that happened, the game was over.  It won’t happen again.”

Tight end Travis Kelce and wide receiver Michael Thomas turned in dominant performances, each eclipsing the 20 point mark. However, a mere 3.9 points from TE Kyle Pitts and 4.9 points from rookie running back Dameon Pierce ended up being the difference.

Speaking on their week one performance, Head Coach Maui Heihei stated “The Team played well but we need to keep the lead once we get it. We took our foot off the gas and it cost us the win”.

Looking to this upcoming weekend, Honolulu will be traveling to Salt Lake City to face the Seagulls (0-1). The Seagulls not only dropped their Week 1 matchup, but lost their star quarterback Dak Precott in the process. Prescott broke his hand late in the 4th quarter of Sunday night’s game, and will be out for at least a month.

The Seagulls also feature a dynamic duo at running back comprised of Javonte Williams and Najee Harris. The two will need to shoulder the load due to Prescott’s injury.

The Hammerheads will then be returning to their hometown fans for a week three matchup against the Charleston Crabs.
