SALT LAKE CITY- The Salt Lake City River Otters were able to squeeze out their first win this week in Salt Lake City, against the Harrisonburg Valley Bees.

In his debut as head coach, Mike Ditka was able to get the offense going this week scoring 142, compared to Harrisonburg’s 114. The River Otters were led by their dual running back threat, Nick Chubb and Jonathan Taylor.  Taylor had a season high with 35 points with 170 all-purpose yards, and two touchdowns. Meanwhile, his teammate,  Chubb was able to rack up 28 points on 170 all-purpose yards, and one touchdown.

Other than a season-high performance from Harrisonburg quarterback Matt Ryan (342 yards, with 3 TDs), the Valley Bees were not able to get much going for them. Running back Kenneth Gainwell was only able to come up with 3.4 points on 44 total yards, which disabled the Valley Bee Offense from scoring.

In a post game interview, new River Otter coach, Mike Ditka, had some comments on his team’s performance.

“I was really happy with how our guys came out strong and never stopped. We had a good week at practice and focused a lot on our offensive game plan, which really paid off. Hopefully we can use this momentum to help us against Knoxville next week.”

The win brings Salt Lake City’s record to 1-4 on the season.

They will travel to Knoxville in week six to take on the 2-3 Knighthawks.
