HONOLULU, Hawaii – The Phoenix Flames (2-1) edge the Honolulu Chameleons (2-1) at the Coca-Cola Stadium with a 43.3-point advantage defeating them 102.44 – 145.74
The Chameleons had a couple of strong performers despite the defeat. The Chameleons’ quarterback Jalen Hurts racked up an impressive 32.54-point performance, just edging The Flames’ QB Aaron Rodgers who scored 32.04 points. The Chameleons’ wide receiver Justin Jefferson also had an impressive week, racking up 27.80 points, including 118 receiving yards and a touchdown.
The Flames had a solid week by the whole team, including everyone except kicker Ryan Succop (5.50) and defense Indianapolis Colts (7.00) to score 10 points or more. Leading the way was running back Alexander Mattison (24.10), WR Jakobi Meyers (18.40), and tight end George Kittle (17.10)
Disappointing and unexpected scores were the key reason to this week’s defeat for the Chameleons. RB Darrell Henderson was out injured, but still started, therefore had a score of 0 points. Star RB Christian McCaffrey was subbed out injured in the first period, therefore ending the weekend with only 6 points.
In the post-game conference, Head coach Randall admitted that this loss was his fault, and his fault only.
“I take full responsibility for this loss. I gambled on players that weren’t 100 %, and that didn’t work out in the end. We have to monitor the injuries more carefully going forward. We’ll get back to the training ground tomorrow preparing for the Salamanders.”
The loss brought the Chameleons’ record to 2-1.
Honolulu will get back on the road for the next matchup, facing the Sacramento Salamanders (2-1) at the Heineken Stadium.
