HONOLULU – The Honolulu Volcanoes fell to the San Antonio Generals 109.98-84.62 Sunday night at Aloha Stadium.
The Volcanoes had a strong performance by wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins who made six catches for 131 yards, and one touchdown. Hopkins racked in 26.10 points for Honolulu. This is the third time this season Hopkins has had at least over 100 receiving yards. Also leading for the Volcanoes was quarterback Dak Prescott with 20.44 points. Prescott went 14-21 for 166 yards.
The Volcanoes’ defense had a great performance, but it was no match for San Antonio. Generals’ quarterback Teddy Bridgewater was Honolulu’s weak spot, scoring 41.82 points for San Antonio. Bridgewater passed for 313 yards with two touchdowns. This was his highest recorded point total of this season. Running back Josh Jacobs also had a strong performance, scoring 22.50 points for the Generals. Unfortunately, these two strong performances were the difference makers in Sunday’s game.
During the post-game conference, Volcanoes’ head coach Eric Picucci had some thoughts about the loss against the Generals.
“There’s a lot of room to improve,” Piccuci said. “We really need our players to step up. A lot of them aren’t playing their best games. After last week’s loss against the last team in the league, I thought it would have been a wake up call. This just means we need to work 10 times harder this week.”
After this loss, Honolulu drops to fourth place. The Volcanoes hope to end this losing streak as they gear up to take on the Louisville Mustangs (1-4, 743.54) in Louisville Sunday afternoon.
