The Purple Cobras Dominate The Omaha Steaks in Week Five
PORTLAND, Ore. – The Portland Purple Cobras beat the Omaha Steaks at Nike Stadium on Sunday night 164.46 to 86.14. The Purple Cobras had strong showings all over the field this weekend and posted the most points they have had all season. Some key players were quarterback Matt Ryan, running back Chris Carson, wide receiver Tyler Boyd, and the Panthers defense. The Purple Cobras beat the Omaha Steaks in every position except for tight end.
Quarterback Matt Ryan had another commanding week with a whopping 50.90 point performance. Every week this season, Ryan has thrown for over 300 yards, and this week was no different. Ryan threw for three touchdowns and had one rushing touchdown. Opposing quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo passed for 181 yards and rushed for negative three yards to create a total of 24.94 points.
Other big time players for the Purple Cobras were Chris Carson and Tyler Boyd. Carson rushed for 118 yards and received a five yard touchdown pass. Boyd caught 10 for 14 targets for 123 yards and one touchdown. Carson and Boyd combined for a total of 50.50 points, while the Omaha Steaks perspective positions scored 13.70 points.
“I am very proud of our offense today”, said Head Coach Mike Johnson. “We have had games where on person has shined, but today, we came together and shined as a team. I am looking forward to this momentum to carry us into next week.”
Not only did the offense show up to play, but so did the other side of the ball. The Purple Cobras’ defense caused three fumbles and had two sacks on the day. Meanwhile, the Omaha Steaks recorded one fumble and one sack.
The Purple Cobras (2-3) will take on Austin City Limits (3-2) next Sunday at 8:30 p.m. on McConaughey Stadium.
