The Serpents fall to the Lincoln Logs in week 5 giving them their second loss.
Lincoln Nebraska – The Salt Lake City Serpents had a rough week on the road, falling 186.56 – 144.34 to the Lincoln Logs. Cooper Kupp and Leonard Fournette had a great weekend for the Salt Lake City Serpents putting up 27.70 and 24.70 points. However, the Salt Lake City Serpents came up short against a strong Lincoln Log offense.
The Salt Lake City Serpents had a strong performance from Wide Receiver Cooper Kupp in week 5. Kupp was all over the field making plays with 117 receiving yards and 1 touchdown. Leonard Fournette controlled the ground game for the Serpents rushing for over 100 yards with 1 touchdown. These two helped keep the Serpents alive but were no match for Lincoln Log RB Christian McCaffrey, who totaled more points than Kupp and Fournette combined.
“Sunday’s game was rough, we could not stop McCaffrey on the ground he found every hole and exploited them” said Serpent Defensive Coordinator Dante Neath.
During Sunday’s game the Lincoln Logs dominated the running game. Christian McCaffrey was unstoppable on the ground. With Serpent quarterback Matthew Stafford out with a bye week, the Serpents were looking for an outbreak performance from Philip Rivers that never came. Lincoln Log wide receiver Julian Edelman showed no mercy against the serpents, with 110 receiving yards and 1 receiving touchdown.
While the Lincoln Log defense came to play this past Sunday, Fournette and Mixon were still able to perform well. The Serpents wide receivers pushed through a tough Log secondary to make plays throughout the game.
“Right now we only have a few players stepping up and making plays. We need the entire team on both sides of the field to step up if we want to go from being a good team, to a great team” said Head Coach Nick Roberts.
The Salt Lake City Serpents (3-2) will play this Sunday at 4 p.m. against the Harrisonburg Valley Bees.
