HONOLULU— Honolulu Hammerheads running back Todd Gurley was named the NFL’s Offensive Rookie of the Month, the league announced on Oct. 29. The North Carolina native is the first in his position to receive the accolade since Eddie Lacy in 2013.
“It is an honor to receive this recognition,” said Gurley. “There’s a lot of great guys who also deserved this award, so it’s humbling to be honored this month.”
After sitting out the first two weeks due to injury, Gurley got his first start of the season recording 146 yards on 19 carries against the Cardinals on Oct. 4 and has continued to improve since. A week later against Green Bay, he rushed for 159 yards. Gurley returned from the bye week by scoring his first two career touchdowns against Cleveland, recording 128 yards rushing and 35 yards receiving in the process.
Throughout the entire month, Gurley averaged 6.37 yards per carry. He also leads the NFL with three runs of at least 45 yards and is top among running backs with 213 yards rushing in the fourth quarter.
