PORTLAND, Ore.– After a hard hit to the head, Robert Griffin III suffered a mild concussion Sunday during the 103.36-51.54 loss against the Birmingham Bulldogs.
While trying to avoid a sack, Griffin was tripped up by a defender and smacked his head on linebacker Sean Weatherspoon’s side. After the hit, he was on the ground for a few moments then got up and stumbled to the sidelines. He wasn’t sure what quarter it was and that was when doctors determined it was a concussion. After numerous tests were conducted, it was determined it was a mild concussion.
“I’m ok and I think after all the testing I will play next week.”, said Griffin on twitter Sunday night.
So far this year, Griffin is the National Football League’s lead rushing quarterback with 234 yards and he also has tied a Pirates season record for a quarterback with four rushing touchdowns.
“Griffin has been such a leading player for us so far this season so it was hard for us to try to finish Sunday’s game without him. We are still unsure of whether he will be back in time for next weekend. Right now we just want to make sure he gets a full recovery before pushing him into anything too soon.” said Chelsea Clark, Portland Pirates general manager.
The Portland Pirates are currently 2-3-0 and will be taking on the 1-3-0 Pointyheads at home at Jeld-Wen Field next Sunday October 14th. The Pirates are scheduled 13 regular season games for the 2012-2013 season as a part of the IFFY conference. For more information about the Pirates Franchise, visit www.portlandpirates.com.
