SAN ANTONIO (Nov. 4, 2013) Toros wide receiver, Justin Blackmon, was suspend by the NFL for his second violation of the league’s Policy and Program for Substance Abuse. Blackmon will be suspended indefinitely causing him to miss the remainder of the season. He will be eligible to apply for reinstatement before the 2014-2015 season. Due to his suspension the San Antonio Toros have made the decision to release him from the roster.
Blackmon’s first suspension occurred on April 20 of 2013 when it was announced that he failed a standard drug test. He received a four game suspension causing him to miss the first four games of the current season. After his suspension was lifted, the former first round draft pick accumulated 414 yards and a touchdown in four games. Blackmon has also been arrested multiple times as a result of DUI charges
General manager, Logan Caldwell, released the following statement regarding Blackmon, “Justin [Blackmon] is a great football player and a great young man. We sincerely hope he takes this situation to heart and seeks help for these issues. He was a valued member of this team and we hope to see him succeed in the future.”
